Question Hardware Compatability

I'm planning on buying all the hardware necessary for making my own computer. However, the pieces of hardware that I'd like to buy don't often appear on Mandrake-Linux's supported hardware page. What are the odds that a piece of hardware I buy won't be compatible with Mandy? Can I for the most part buy hardware that isn't on the list (I won't buy anything that's known to be incompatible of course) and still be okay? Thanks in advance.

A few tips - generally, IDE devices should be OK, so that takes care of CDRom/CD Burner/DVD drive/hard drive.

Memory - no problem, not even with DDR ram.

Modem - best to use an external one - internal are the dreaded Winmodems which generally need Windows to work.

In fact, the probable problem bits of hardware are motherboards (some chipsets can cause difficulty) and Athlon CPUs (usually sorted using various workarounds - loads of people use it successfuly).

The best thing to do is post your proposed chosen hardware details and also check sites such as www.linuxhardware.org....if you haven't already.

Alright, I wont bother with posting IDE stuff then. Here's the hardware that I'm worried about:

1. Motherboard - Asus VIA A7V333 Chipset ATX Motherboard w/ RAID (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ry=1315&DEPA=1)

2. Processor - AMD Athlon XP 1700+/266 FSB Processor CPU (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ry=1028&DEPA=1)

3. Video Card - ABIT SILURO GF4 TI4200 64MB DDR TV/DVI (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ry=1283&DEPA=1)

Thanks.

Also, I forgot about the sound card-

CREATIVE LABS SOUND BLASTER LIVE! 5.1 - http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ry=1137&DEPA=1

Can someone tell me if the four pieces of hardware I've listed are compatible with Linux-Mandrake?

Well, yes on the soundcard, and the processor. Now the mobo, probably, and the video, probably.
