Hardware Acceleration Rage128 Mobility
After OS X crashed on my mac during my vacation :-( i downloaded Yellow Dog Linux and am pretty satisfied with it except that it won't activate hardware acceleration on my ATI Rage 128 Mobility. On OS X i'm sure it worked, but Yellow Dog just shows a gray box i can't click for "hardware acceleration" at the driver selection dialog.
I'm using an old PowerBook G4 (4 years old i think...) Anyone know what to do? Does it have to do with XFree86config? Is there any other way to get the most out of my video card (Anything OpenGL is extremely slow...) |
Hardware Acceleration Rage Mobility P
here's something i found today indicarting two things:
1) the card is now discontinued 2) the card was designed to support 3d hardware acceleration so.... i'm going to be very interested if: a) the xorg.conf is already supporting 3d accleration and if so then why does wine give me such a poor rating (or indicate that it does not) b) what's involved in getting it working on my machine sadly, the first place to look is to see if the 3d acceration is activated while in "Winblows", if so, i guess i'm going to be doing alot learning. fortunately for me however, there's some activity with recompiling the ati driver for use with kernal 2.6.7 that seems to indicate that we may be in luck! cheers - perry |
hmmmm that's interesting....
in my /mnt/windows/ati directory i found a utility that looked like it could be run by wine
Code:
perry@slackware:/mnt/windows/ati$ wine cardinfo.exe Code:
hDC: 0x74 the acc at the top of the table looks a lot like acceleration to me! - perry |
www.mesa3d.org
hmmmm, it seems that that web site is giving me alot of insight as to what to check for... at least i believe that my card is capable of it. as i have both ati.com and windows reporting that i can have 3d:
check out: http://www.ati.com/products/mobility/index.html http://www.ati.com/products/mobility128/index.html http://www.ati.com/products/rage128/...ion/index.html (MAC) http://www.mesa3d.org/ http://dri.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/ http://dri.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/m...roubleshooting http://www.uwsg.iu.edu/hypermail/lin...12.1/0068.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-lapto.../msg00242.html further, i could out about this command: Code:
perry@slackware:/mnt/windows/ati$ glxinfo Code:
name of display: :0.0 it should look like this as i have agp Code:
perry@slackware:/mnt/windows/ati$ dmesg | grep drm http://dri.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/m...roubleshooting - perry |
not ready to give up yet but....
i got other things to do:
Code:
root@slackware:/mnt/windows/ati# grep dri /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep LoadModule nonetheless it's proving to be very interesting.....! anybody with any ideas feel free to share! - perry |
