Question Hard Drives

Yo Yo, I am a newbie____ and I was wondering how I could dual boot my current rig with XP Home and Mandrake 9.0. But, here is the catch, my rig is set up with a 60 GB Maxtor drive, and I don't, let me repeat, DO NOT/CANNOT reformat this sucker, way too much info and time has been up into it. I am thinking of adding my 40GB IBM HDD from my older computer (Dell GXa series with 266 MHz P2) into my new computer. It already has MDK 9.0 on it, but It is feasible to format that drive. I guess my question is, how can I add this drive in without having to play with XP at all. Could I just set the IBM drive as Seconary and then just simply put it in the install either GRUB or LILO to boot. This leads to my second question, if this works, how do I install GRUB to boot? Haha, thanks in advance

Just install lilo or grub to hda mdr (your primary HD).
Add an entry pointing to your distro on the secondary HD

man lilo, man grub, google...
For lilo;
Code:
/sbin/lilo -b /dev/hda
(this will install lilo in the mbr of the master HD)
add an entry in /etc/lilo.conf:
Code:
image=/boot/<name of kernel>
label="Your disto"
root=/dev/hdb
read-only
run lilo again: /sbin/lilo
that's it.
I don't use grub obviously but if you search here and/or google, you will find how to do this in grub

you could also boot Mandrake from the XP-partition/MBR, in this way your currnet drive remains the primary partition. You will still be using Lilo or Grub, but do not install it in the MBR but on your bootdisk. Copy the bootrecord en use that file to boot from XP wich has also a multiboot-system.
