Hard Drive from linux to ntsf
 

Im trying to take back my drive to put windows on it. However i have been unable to format it using the ntsf format system . anyone have a step by step on how this can be done??

boot a linux rescue disk and then use "cfdisk" to repartition the drive...

then you should be able to format it from windows...

ok it has been a while since i have had time to try and do this but since i have tried and i cant even get to cfdisk, could you please give me a step by step?

Sad to see you leaving.

try a live boot disk like Knoppix and fdisk the partitions there. Maybe this does the trick. If you prefer, you may even take a freedos boot disk (or CD), I hade some success killing an gone-wild grub with it... :)

boot your distro's rescue cd, when you're at the "prompt" type cfdisk and hit enter, that should start it...

if you have multiple disks, then you might need to specify the disk, for example:

cfdisk /dev/hda

once you're in cfdisk, you navigate with the arrows and the tab key... you want to delete all the partitions, then make your new ones... make sure you specify the "type", you'll need to tell it it's a windows partition that you wanna make... when you're done, select the write option, it'll ask you to confirm that you want to write the new partition table...

then reboot and you're ready to format from your usual method (like, with the windows installer, in this case, for example)...

remember you can make both windows and linux partitions if you want to be able to use both systems...
