oh yeah hey can I format a hard drive on a linux system that will be compatible witha Mac?

GUID and APM are not related to hard-disks at all. AFAIK, if you want to be compatible with Windows and MacOS X you have to use FAT32 as filesystem. If you don't need write support on MacOS X you can use NTFS.

Yes fat32 would be the choice although it won't accept files bigger than 4 gb
