Unhappy Hacking: The Art of Exploitation [Book + CD]-- from/for one who is W/O CD

Hey.

So, total noob here in regards to... well, everything but actual programming...

So, I ordered this book: Hacking: The Art of Exploitation, 2ed. It should have had a CD with it. However, the book came without a CD.

I have had an impossible time trying to track the CD down (for either edition). I am wondering how one might go about this matter-- Again, I am as green as the Emerald Isles, here-- w/o the CD. Or, am I really stuck in this crap-shoot of a situation; that I cannot proceed w/o one?

How pointless it is to just read, if I cannot practice. That's like "just reading" about how to do math or physics! It's crazy! Crazy, I tell you!!!!

RE: Linux (UBUNTU) OS: According to the book, it seems that one needn't either have an Ubuntu OS nor have one as a VM. However, it says one must put in the CD upon booting, and remove it prior to re-boot

(Maybe this is how one does a VM, in part. I only heard about VMs. But, I do know one has to partition one's hardrive and the way the book has it, it seems this is entirely unnecessary. It sounds like you can have a full-fledged Windows OS whilst running an Ubuntu OS, in some manner or another. Hard to say, specifically, as I am without CD).I say this only because, I am sure everyone is wondering how this relates to Linux. Also, I might discover my understanding about this is wrong, somehow. I would like to know, very much, if that is the case!

Help please! :-'( <--- My face, ever since I got my CD-less book.

It almost certainly means that you run Linux from memory and CD, without installation.
i.e. A live CD.

NEED THE CD?

If the CD-ROM included with your book is defective, we'll be glad to ship you a replacement.
Send proof of purchase and your mailing address to us by email, fax, or mail and we'll send you a new disk.

If you bought the ebook or just want to download the CD contents yourself, you can download the ISO image via BitTorrent (http://www.mininova.org/tor/2533556).
says the very same page.
