Hack for seamless vbox integration of Vista Premium in Ubuntu????
So, I'm weaning myself off of windows, which is quite easy for the most part given how awkward vista is, but there are still a few apps that I need to use that don't work well under wine. So, I've got vista home premium all made up well under VirtualBox.
This is really mostly aesthetic, I just want to convince myself that I'm only using linux when I'm really running windows, but I'm wondering if there's any sort of remote-desktop hack to get seamless integration of Vista home premium working in an Ubuntu host, possible with RDesktop? Right now I'm using virtualbox, but am more than willing to try qemu or other alternatives (sadly I don't have KVM, which means qemu is very slow). If not, that's fine, I'll just try to make vista look as Gnome-ish as possible... Thanks! |
You can enable seamless mode by pressing Host + L in virtualbox. Host should be the right ctrl key. This will put all the windoze taskbar at the bottom of your desktop so you can select different windoze apps.

No, that option is greyed-out in the menu, adn pressing it does nothing. I think that it has something to do with the lack of remote-desktop in Vista Home Premium. In the end I'm going to be hacking Vista, not Ubuntu, but I figured that linux people are almost always smarter than windows people, and probably would know the answer.

Did you install Virtualbox Guest Additions?
