Very simple : Files.gzip are not zip files, but gzip files.

Please use : gunzip file.gzip

The extension naming might be wrong, what is the output of
Code:

file lmsuatexp2012dec11.dmp.gzip

I'm not sure .gzip is the correct extension.

Try renaming (copying if you like) the file to lmsuatexp2012dec11.dmp.gz and run gunzip lmsuatexp2012dec11.dmp.gz

changed the name

and no results this time,, hang after pressing ENTER and released by Ctrl+D

but at least am not getting the "unknown suffix" error MSG

Only thing I can think of now: Is this file corrupt?

Try fetching a fresh copy, do a md5sum (or similar) if possible.

upzip is the wrong choice a gzip file is not a zip file. The problem with gzip was the suffix because the person who created it used a non standard suffix. You can get around this with -S (see: man gzip):

Code:

gunzip -S .gzip lmsuatexp2012dec11.dmp.gzip
If the file is very large it could take a while (How big is the file?). I wouldn't assume that gzip is actually hanging. Just wait!

If it really doesn't work then the file is most likely corrupt, though I would then expect an error message in that case, which is why I suspect it is just taking its time.
