What you can expect in any installation of Linux is a request of knowledge about your graphics card, and monitor settings, if you don't know these, don't start the installation. I can't speak for Red Hat, but this being your first time, you can expect a long night, and several attempts at installation before complete success.

I'm not sure if you've given enough info here but if you have the OS burned to a cd, insert the cd and change the boot order to recognize the cd first. The install process may start right up for you. In case you don't know how to change the boot order, when your machine first turns on, it should tell you to press a certain 'F key' to get into the bios. Once there, you'll be able to rearrange the boot sequence or order so that it recognizes the cd first - assuming once again that you have this on cd. If you're still not sure, just post again, one of us will try to help you out.
Good luck!

if you can get a copy of their install guide, it will prove to be quite helpful to get your system up and running. this is how i started out...

your system specs are important to know, as there are times when the auto detection programs don't id hardware correctly, and need to be manually adjusted.

I have used RedHat 9.0 .. I guess u r having a CD pack .. First Installation CD in the pack will be bootable .. Just change the boot sequence in ur BIOS setting by making CD-ROM as first boot device .. On reboot, installation shud start by itself from ur RedHat CD-ROM ..

If ur system is not very old, RedHat will detect the hardware smoothly .. But if it is old machine, make sure that u have ur hardware specs ready by ur side .. Especially ur Monitor .. Its better than u don't choose graphical login screen at time of installation .. Go for shell login screen .. Once u r logged in, u can start GUI with startx

$ startx

It will take u to GUI for GNU/Linux .. RedHat is pretty user friendly as well ..

Happy Installation ..
