GUI network-manager-vpnc doesn't connect over wired connection only

HI all,

I have a problem with a user's laptop running Ubuntu 8.04 and network-manager-vpnc. I cannot get vpnc to connect to our corporate network via the gui interface and a wired connection only (wireless works fine). With ethernet cable plugged in, I click on the NM icon at the top right, select vpn connections and then select a profile that I created (and recreated) that has all the correct settings to vpn into our network. But nothing happens. No error message, no asking for passwords, nothing.

If I run vpnc-connect from a command line and use the correct settings, I connect just fine. Again, this only happens when connected via ethernet. It works fine when using wireless.

Anybody have any ideas?

TIA
-Jesse

you did everything right but did you set it to auto dhcp open a terminal and typ sudo dhcpcd I think it is if this works then set your connection profile that you are using to auto dhcp if you have a static connection then you will need more in put. the question should read I have to connect to a cable modem or a dsl modem and I am unable to connect.
you may want to disable wifi when not using it. trust me if you have everything correct it would work but somthing may be a little bit off like domain names. so do a sudo ifconfig and see what your net devices are doing.
this also tells me that the profile you are using may not be a default profile for that wired device let me know what you find I have worked with the 8.04 for a while now and I do know out of the box the default profile is dhcpcd and it will auto connect. try deleting your profile and see what happen make sure you keep your info.
