Grub4dos and grub4nt have been around for a while. The grub24 is the grub2 version sort of.

It really was never meant to boot iso images from usb's and other tasks but many people have been playing with it.

See the posts at pendrivelinux or on the web for some ways to use grub4dos to launch older kernels that can't normally be loaded with syslinux.
