Hi

To start with GUI mode by default, change the following line in file "/etc/inittab"
"id:3:initdefault:" to "id:5:initdefault:"

# 3 - multiuser mode with n/w and you only CLI interface
# 5 - GUI mode (X11) with n/w

Regards
Rajiv

if you can startx then you may need to install xorg and a desktop. To check this you can use

# yum grouplist

This will show you all group packages install and uninstalled.

rpm -qa

This will show you all rpm packages installed.
