Grub4Dos - change boot default

Hello,

when I launch computer I have the following screen:

GRUB4DOS 0.4.4 2009-09-03
Windows with SLIC Loader (default)
Windows without Loader
Windows with SLIC Loader (use alternative method)
Windows with SLIC Loader (full debug output)
Windows with SLIC Loader (more forceful - may crash)
Load External Menu (menu.lst)
Grub Command Line

I have to choose the second one (Windows without Loader) because the first one (Windows with SLIC Loader (default)) does not launch my system at all - it restarts again and again.

I want to change default value to the second entry.

I have found in the internet that I need to change something like menu.lst or similar. I have launched my computer from Ubuntu LiveCD and started looking for this file. But I don't see it.

I can see three discs:
300 GB Volume --- it may be my D partition
150 GB Volume --- it may be my C partition with Windows
Zastrzeżone przez system --- it is some kind of system partition with total capacity of 104.9 MB (25.6 used), empty filesystem type

In that reserved space I can see:
Boot - directory
System Volume Information - directory
Temp - directory
bootmgr - binary file (383.8 kB)
BOOTSECT.BAK - unknown type (8.2 kB)
grldr - binary file (203.3 kB)
win7ldr - text file (3 bytes)

In boot directory there are subdirectories with languages and some files like BCD, BCD.LOG, BOOTSTAT.DAT, memtest.exe. System Volume Information has only tracking.log. In Temp there are txt and log files.

Where can I change boot order?

Thanks for reply in advance :-)

The first link below explains setting the default, about halfway down the page. The second link explains a lot more about Grub4Dos including how to install it. The third link is a brief video on installing it. I've never used it but from what I have read, it needs to be in the root of the windows filesystem, C:\

Thanks for reply! I have found this link before posting my question on this forum. Unfortunately, I cannot edit menu.lst because I cannot find this file anywhere in this system reserved partition or C partition. (In Ubuntu LiveCD I have checked "Show hidden and backup files").

Based on your links, I have decided to create new file menu.lst in the same directory where grldr can be found. Its content is as follows:

Quote:
timeout 5
default 0

title Windows without Loader
find --set-root --ignore-floppies --ignore-cd /win7ldr
chainloader /bootmgr
Unfortunately, it does not change loader behavior. Those two commands "find ... /bootmgr" I created based on what I could see in editing "Windows without Loader" so nothing I invented.
