grub settings ubuntu 8.04 and xp home

I have ubuntu 8.04 and xp home s2, xp installed first, I need to use xp for work but cannot boot it up.
I get the grub screen showing
ubuntu 8.04 root hd1,2

other os
windows xp home root hd0,0
ubuntu 7.10 root hd0,1

I have obviously mucked up when i first installed 7.10 which is hd0,1

if I try to boot into xp I get the option of normal safe and last known good, none of which work, any that are selected go to bsod with stop error 07b

I really am very impressed with ubuntu 8.04 and seem to have no problems

can anyone help with grub settings for 8.04 and maybe tell me how i can remove 7.10 from other os
very many thanks smudger

If the windows kernel is loaded and crashes, the issue is probably not with grub. Please describe your setup (partitions, changes you made, how it crashes, etc.) and/or ask some Windows experts.
