So did you replace Ubuntu with Debian? Or did you install Debian onto a separate partition so you can dual boot Ubuntu and Debian?
To try to fix grub so you can boot you could try using the
boot repair CD:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair
There is also the
Super Grub2 Disc that you could try:
http://www.supergrubdisk.org/super-grub2-disk/
These repair CDs will give you options that you can try in order to fix grub so you can boot the computer from the installed OS on your hard drive.
If those repair CDs do not help, then we need more info. Try running the
Boot Info Script:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/bootinfoscript/
You can run thins from a live CD if you can not boot to Ubuntu or Debian. The Boot Info Script will create a
results.txt file that you can post here that will give us detailed info about what Linux distros you have installed on which partitions, and where grub is installed and where it looks for an OS to boot.
