grub refuses to read grub.conf


I have to manually type 'configfile=/grub/grub.conf' at the grub prompt everytime i reboot my pc.

any ideas?

maybe there's a menu.lst file that is taking priority over it? how did you set grub up?

i created a menu.lst simlink to grub.conf, but it didn't help.
