Grub question

Hi,

I have a my desktop PC with 2 operating systems, Windows XP and Ubuntu 10.4. My windows xp partition is infected with a virus (of course, what else is new?) so I need to reinstall it but im afraid by doing so I will remove the grub files and ubuntu will not load.
Is there anyway to copy those files?
Please let me know.
Thanks

Indeed, that should work.

Another option is to create a separate partition to /boot.
I guess a 200MB partition would do. Then when you face such a problem, all you'll need to do is use a live cd and rescue or reinstall the grub in the /boot partition.

Formatting the Windows partition and reinstalling Grub after that using the Live CD is easier and faster :p

spring logout

You can get into safemode & run AV from there.

To get to safemode select windows in grub & start pressing F8.
Grub loads windows reallly quick so you have to have finger at button or it won't boot to safemode.
CCleaner works really well to remove some of the entries in the registry.
