Grub problems after format
Installed Ubuntu...... Did not like 10.04..... So I formatted the partition in order to install Ubuntu 10.10....... Now when I try to install Ubuntu it says it cannot install the boot loader ..... I've had this happen on 2 totally different computers.... Thanks in advance for helping!

As far as your somewhat of a question, what is the actual error that you are getting? |
Ubuntu has it's own partition program so you don't necessarily have to prepartition.
If it's only Os just when it comes to installation select erase and use whole disk. If dual boot select side by side. Ubuntu can resize partitions if there's an existing os. |

Thank you corp769.
I was trying to beat you to it. It almost seems you have your answers preprogrammed. |
Umm so why am I getting the grub can't install error....... Is there an alternative to grub?
|
post output of fdisk -l
It's probably the way you've setup your partitions. |

And for the record, you are taking ericTRA's place; me and him normally battle it out. As far as beating me to it, I wasn't going to say exactly what you said, but it was damn close. And let me get one or two in before you, ok? Thanks :p |

But let's try to fix grub for you. EDDY1 already posted, so we will take it from there. |
Is it dual boot?
How many OS? What type of machine? If installing 10.04, why not go with 10.10 so you don't have to upgrade? |

Like my comment from previous post, the information you provide is always good.
I'm taking notes though! |

But on that note, let's stop thread jacking the poor OP's thread. If anything, send me a private message and/or e-mail, or vice versa.
