grub problem/fd0 read error
I recently installed the newest version of ubunut server a week ago. New to ubuntu and linux the server. Wanted to start learning it. Anyhow, when i rebooted my system periodically while playing around with it I started getting a fd0 read error. Per instructions online I did this:
su grub-install /dev/sda update-grub Wasn't sure what it would actually do. No i realize it causes the system to boot into grub. Well I have no idea what to do to get my system back. I'm looked through help, online, whatever. I'm totally flustered now. I just want my system to boot back into my ubuntu server OS. I never want to see grub again and I want to get rid of the fd0 read error. Can someone please help me!! when i do a 'ls' i get: ubuntu-server-swap_1 ubuntu-server-root hdo hdo,msdos5 hdo,msdos1 fdo ubuntu-server-root is the one that I shoudl be trying to get. ubuntu-server is what i named it when i did the install of the OS. |
grub is a bootloader which many Gnu/Linux distros, such as Ubuntu, use to tell the computer to boot into the operating system. explain exactly what you boot into now.

I have the same problem.
I saw some other post about it but without solution. A lot of them have lvm+raid but I only have lvm for ubuntu 11.04 fresh install. |
What do you see when you log into your computer ? If it is not logging into the OS, what is it logging into?

No point guessing. Boot the Ubuntu CD as a liveCD ("try without installing"), go here do as it says (use the sudo option), and post the RESULTS.txt here so we can see what the boot setup is.
