GRUB problem

I have installed RedHat 7.3 to IBM ThinkPad R30 , followed all the instructions from www.linux-laptop.net , etc
Configuring the boot.in in Windows, I was able to manage to boot to either OS
However, after using it several times ? the dual-boot doesn't work anymore,
when I boot to Linux, the screen just show message:
"GRUB GRUB" and then the notebook freeze.

How to solve this ?

No, I didn't.
But I removed the RedHat up2date from the panel.

Since I am using laptop (Thinkpad), I was told not to replace the MBR and just use boot.ini instead of GRUB for dual-boot
(for booting to Linux: boot.ini ->GRUB->Linux)

you should be able to get into the system with the first install cd

type linux rescue at the prompt

the system will be mounted in /mnt/sysimage

you can login to the system and work on it with this command

chroot /mnt/sysimage

at that point I would probably install lilo

but that's up to you if you want to stay with grub

There is an easy solution to your problem. Just don't use Grub! I also had probs with RH8.0 on a ThinkPad when booting using GRUB.

Just reinstall RedHat and select the LILO boot loader.

Grub Bashers!! I know this post has absolutely no value, but I had to defend the best boot loader in the world, Grub of course.

btw, isn't reinstalling linux for a simple grub problem a bit extreme?

Yes, I just don't know what to think about reinstalling to fix one little problem.
Of course if your coming from windows it seems like the right thing to do.

grubs ok but for some reason all my systems are now using lilo.

You are probably right - reinstalling the OS is probably quite extreme. However nothing was setup with my previous installation.

1. Installed it - 30 mins
2. GRUB causes problems - 2 mins
3. Reinstall with LILO - 30 mins

Beats spending days working out how to reinstall LILO over GRUB.

Or the other option .... was to try and fix the GRUB problem. I saw someone post the same problem that I experienced. the old error 28 message .... it was a long topic with many repsonses and I dont think he had worked it out.

LILO rules.
