GRUB Loading Error 17
 

Hello,

I've seen loads of entries about this issue, but I am too much of a newbie to even understand where to start out fixing this issue. :study: I do not have a prompt to type in any commands, just a blinking cursor. I don't have the Grub floppy I've read about and don't know how to begin to create one. I *do* have my Suse 10.1 bootable install CD.

Please help me in the most basic terms. Thanks!

So, it seems your /boot/grub/menu.lst points to a partition which grub doesn't recognize. Is it the only partition on the machine, other than swap?

How long ago did you install Suse?

It would help if you could copy menu.lst (you will need root priviledge to access it) and /etc/fstab and post them here.

Try booting from the install cd.

Thanks bigrigdriver! I booted from install CD, selected Installation Repair and fixed the bootloader problem. Reboots fine now. My very first Linux problem was fixed in a jiffy with your help! ahobs2006
