Grub error 25
Evening Folks
I've got Kanotix 2005-03 installed on my machine and everything was going swimmingly until I had to reboot and the dreaded "error 25" popped up. This is before I got the splash screen from which I can choose what to boot. I see the "stage 1.5" message and immediately thereafter the "error 25" is displayed. I tried to boot from my rescue floppy & go the exact same result. I booted from the Kanotix live cd and ran reiserfs on my primary partition (/dev/hda1) but that did not report any errors. What can I do to fix this problem (or at least properly diagnose it)? Can anybody help, please? Did you update the kernel or anything?
|
Nope. I installed Kanotix on my hd. It was up and running for a couple of days when I got i/o errors on another drive (I live in a very dusty area). I switched off the pc, cleaned everything and rebooted, right into this "error 25".

This could be a loose connection inside your PC?
Check the HD ribbon is well in place, and fully inserted at both ends. While you are at it check all connections. I now it sounds like a dumb suggestion, but that is a start. |
Hey Emmanuel, thanks for the suggestion. It's something that I have to do with an irritating frequency :(
Anyhoo, I managed to get the error 25 changed to an error 17. So I gave up in disgust and reinstalled (the well-known "sledge hammer approach"). Bingo. Everything works. Go figure. Cheers Joe |
