GRUB Error 22 occurance after no modifications to OS's or partitions

So on my desktop, I dual boot Windows 7 and Debian Lenny. I managed to install both OS's perfectly fine, let GRUB handle the OS loading and what not, it was a good thing.

I left my computer on Windows 7 when I went to class. I can only assume some update occurred because when I returned, my computer had gone idle, pressed the space bar to wake it up, and although the desktop did wake up, the monitors never came back up nor did any of my USB devices power up. So I did a hard reset. Computer boots, passes BIOS but only after pausing to warn me the that last time BIOS ran that something failed. I hit F1 to continue into GRUB where I got my Error 22.

Now, I know error 22 occurs often after changing partitions without updating GRUB to know about the changes but here I did nothing other than let my computer idle while I went to class. I have the Debian Live CD to try to rescue anything I can. How can I update GRUB to see the correct locations without having to reinstall Debian?

You can boot with the live CD and then chroot into Debian and reinstall grub. See B5 of the "Grub Booting Tips" in my signature.

Well, I tried what you said and ran into one big problem... the Live CD can't find my Debian partition anymore. It can see all my ntfs partitions fine. Let me add more detail...

I have two hard drives. One is a 500 GB Seagate Barracuda while the second one is a 74 GB Western Digital Raptor. I had it configured so the entire raptor and half of the barracuda is ntfs. The second half of the barracuda was my debian partition.

So, when I put in my Live CD, it sees my ntfs partitions, but for some reason thinks the barracuda is only as big as the ntfs partition. It doesn't see anything after that. It thinks my hard drive is only as big as the ntfs partition. What do I do?

My only other suggestion would be to try running testdisk from a live CD and see if it can recover the old partition table.
