grub configuration file

Hi,
On a labtop I've installed Fedora core 4 and Win XP.
A former coleague helped me configure GRUB to load both OS's, and it worked well, until a few days ago, where I tried to resize a partition on the hd, using Partition Magic 8. The system hang, and I had to reboot it. Moving the hd to my desktop computer, I was able to do the partitioning.

Since then, GRUB does not load the menu. It only shows the grub prompt. Using the find, cat or configfile commands, I've been trying to locate grub.conf, but it seems to be gone, as well as grub dir it self.

With a Fedora rescue disk, I've been able to locate grub.conf, mounted under /mnt/sysimage/boot/grub. I also found the file to be intact.

Can anybody tell me why grub can't find the file, and how I fix it?

Thanks
/Glenn

i maybe because of u add additional partition, remove some partitio cause your partition number difference with original 1.

Example your '/' partition at /dev/hda6 change to /dev/hda7 or
'/boot' at /dev/hda8 change to /dev/hda6

may cause this kind of problem.
Please boot into you rescue disk, mount the '/' and '/boot' in somewhere else and edit your /etc/fstab and /boot/grub/menu.lst or /boot/grub/grub.lst(sometimes there is 2 files)

Regards,
Ks

In console after mounting sysimage,

#chroot /mnt/sysimage
#grub-install /dev/sda (or 'hda')
