Grub.conf file changed after updating the FedOS; showing two entries for fedora 10 OS

During system boot the grub loader shows the following 2 entries with WindowsXP professional, after i updated the Fedora 10:

Fedora(2.6.27.30-170.2.82.fc10.i686)
Fedora(2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686)

My grub.conf file is as below:

#boot=/dev/sda
default=0
timeout=10
splashimage=(hd0,6)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
hiddenmenu
title Fedora (2.6.27.30-170.2.82.fc10.i686)
root (hd0,6)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27.30-170.2.82.fc10.i686 ro root=UUID=34963efa-3f93-441a-8a42-7069aedd9674 rhgb quiet
initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.27.30-170.2.82.fc10.i686.img
title Fedora (2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686)
root (hd0,6)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686 ro root=UUID=34963efa-3f93-441a-8a42-7069aedd9674 rhgb quiet
initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686.img
title Windows XP professional
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1

1. I would like to know what changes should i make in my grub.conf to show only 2 entries (Fedora and WindowsXP) in the grub loader during boot up.
2. I had set the default boot as windows XP but now default boot is changed to Fedora 10 after update. I would like to know what changes should i make for the default boot as windows XP.

Thanks,
Vijai.K

Sounds like one of the updates to your system was a kernel update. You can modify that by changing /boot/grub/menu.lst and placing a # in front of
title Fedora (2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686)
root (hd0,6)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686 ro root=UUID=34963efa-3f93-441a-8a42-7069aedd9674 rhgb quiet
initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686.img

IE
#title Fedora (2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686)
#root (hd0,6)
#kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686 ro root=UUID=34963efa-3f93-441a-8a42-7069aedd9674 rhgb quiet
#initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686.img

edit default=0 to default=1

Glad to hear that. After a while of testing you can go through there and delete the old entry. I normally keep one around so that if I find that the update broke something I can go back to an older update.

And use 'yum remove ..' cmd so all the right files get removed.
