GRUB Bootloader Error 23

Hi,
I juz tried installing Linux SUSE 9.1 on an existing WinXP system.

During boot up, a menu appears with options of "Boot from Hard Disk". but it freezes at the GRUB prompt.

Entering the Installation - Safe Setting at the same menu, and clicking on Expert Tool in the repair section, it came up with this error msg when trying to save the bootloader configuration file.

"Qoute"
grub> root(null)

Error 23 : Error while parsing number
grub> install --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2/d(hd0)/0x8000(null)/

"End qoute"

I've tried adding these lines under the "title windows" line in the bootloader config file, but everytime the same error message above appears:
rootnoverify(hd0)
map (hd0) (hd1)

Pls help!
