Can you post your entire grub.conf file? Did you modify the configure file?

hd0,1 refers to the 1st drive 2nd partition. How is the drive partitioned? Whats on the 2nd partition?

fdisk -l /dev/hda (thats a small L and you need to log in as root)
Post the results

grub starts counting at zero. Your windows should be at (hd0,1)

Oops, my fault I forgot about the extended partition try (hd0,2).

You only need to modify the boot.ini if you want to boot linux from windows.
