group permission is given, even after file is not read

it is not allowing to create file in /shared directory

mini@vaibhav-desktop:~$ touch /shared/minifile

touch: cannot touch `/shared/minifile': Permission denied

mini@vaibhav-desktop:~$

although mini user is the part of group testgroup

root@vaibhav-desktop:/home/min*i# ls -ld /shared

drwxrwx--- 2 vaibhav testgroup 4096 2012-06-19 01:24 /shared

root@vaibhav-desktop:/home/min*i#

why it is not working??

Here's a few things to check:

1. check mini user really is part of that group "id mini"

2. is FS mounted read-only "cat /etc/mtab"

3. check acls (unlikely) : "getfacl /shared"

Does /shared/minifile already exist? If so, what are its ownership and permissions?
