Hi, I have not read through the thread; just answering the OPs original question.
The Linux distribution with the best documentation and community online is Ubuntu.
After that, I would say Linux Mint.
Third best one is probably a tie between Arch and Fedora.
If you're on LQ, Slack will be tops on the list.
Slackware would be the best distribution overall, although its documentation and support isn't as high as most because it is less popular than the ones listed above (except Arch).
However, Slackware has a large fan base right here on LQ, so if you stay here with your questions, one the guys here will answer you with a likely solution very quickly.
