Graphical Bootloader Screen?

I have Ubuntu and XP on my comuter, XP worked until I stalled Ubuntu, now my computer boots into Ubuntu automatically. It goes through the standard bios where I can boot into Cd, floppy, network, etc, but I instead of waiting and pressing F8 is there another option where a choice will automatically appear? I'm not clear on GRUB, and I've seen references that lead me to believe there is a nifty graphical multiboot screen out there somewhere to be had.

Before the black background with the "ubuntu" logo and the progress bar there should be something... it might be brief. That is grub, and it basically HAS to be there to boot ubuntu (lilo is the other option but ubuntu doesn't use that).

Usually if grub is using the "hiddenmenu" option you can press [Esc] to display the menu.

Alternatively you can edit /boot/grub/grub.conf (or menu.lst) from within ubuntu and if "hiddenmenu" is on a line by itself put a "#" in front of it. You can also adjust the "timeout" value, which is how long in seconds before booting the default (ubuntu).

The up and down keys don't work to choose booting options, is there another options? Is there something that utilizes the mouse maybe?

definitely not the mouse... arrow keys should work fine, at least I've never seen them not work
