GPL MPEG-1/2 Decoder linux

I am told that I need to install a install a GPL MPEG-1/2 Decoder for Fedora 13 linux but have been unable to find one or determine how to install it. I want to watch streaming news video from:

http://www.abc.net.au/streaming/abc-video2.asx

The error message I receive is like this:

GPL MPEG-1/2 Decoder is a free DirectShow MPEG decoder filter. It can be used to play MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 streams in any media player based on DirectShow.

I am running Fedora 13 and any help I can get to fix this would be much appreciated.

It's not a codec you need, it's a browser plugin for an appropriate video player. You probably already have something like mplayer, xine, or vlc installed on your system. These players all have mpeg support built-in. You just need to install the matching plugin so that your browser can use it to play the stream.

Alternately, you can simply open up the url directly in the player itself. Most all of them can handle streaming media, as long as they are direct video feeds like this and not embedded flash players a-la youtube.

Incidentally, I tried your link and for some reason it fails to open for me. I don't know if it's just down right now or if they're blocking connections from my country or what. But I went up a page and found several streaming audio-only links, and they all appear to work.

Thank you for your response.

You are probably right in that the link has been blocked but I don't understand why they would do that since it contains no material that would be considered offensive in the Kuwaiti culture. I have checked with my service provider and they said the link doesn't work for them either.
