Angry Got Stuck!!!!!

Hi,
I have just installed RHEL 6 BETA version on my computer but some how it didnt install network drivers.my NIC is Atheros 8131 .so i downloaded the tar file from Atheros website and that is ATHEROS 81Family.tar.when i unzip it and start using the make install command it was giving me the error "kernel source not found:stop".so i come to know that kernel is not present under /usr/src/ folder.i manually copied linux kernel and started using make install for atheros drivers..but now this time it was giving me as compiler not found..so i restarted the system to boot from my windows system to download the gcc but when booted the system into linux i was not able to access myvfat and ntfs partition.error i was getting was unable to mount.now i dont know what went wrong..with kenerl..NOW I GOT STUCK UP AND DONT KNOW HOW TO PROCEED .I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS---

1)Is there any kernel version that comes along with atheros 81 drivers or do i have to manually installed it??????

2)If i am reinstalling the BEta version again which package i should select so that kernel will get automatically installed???

3)If i am reinstalling the BEta version again which package i should select so that GCC Compiler will get automatically installed ???

Why did you install RHEL6 BETA, when the real version has already been released?? Get and load the released version, and when you do, install the kernel source and GCC at install time.

Second, if you're not planning on PAYING for RHEL support/updates, then DON'T USE IT. You will get NO updates/patches/bugfixes, and will not be able to install anything that requires an update to the RHEL packages afterwards. If you need RHEL, use CentOS instead, if you don't want to pay. Also, if you don't NEED RHEL for a very specific reason, then you should you load a 'consumer friendly' distro, like Ubuntu, Mandriva, openSUSE, etc. A greater range of consumer hardware is supported...servers don't typically need sound, wireless, bluetooth, etc., as you'd find on a laptop.

You need the kernel headers that match the kernel you have installed. The headers are not the kernel itself. It will be different packages that match the kernel version you have installed. To know what kernel, at a command prompt run the command 'uname -a' . You can also look at the /boot partition, that is where the kernel lives.

The kernel will get installed, it did if you booted the system once. The problem is you do not have the headers installed.

Most distros have their own naming. Look for 'development tools' in the package manager. Possibly someone knowing RH can chime in and post the exact name?

Is this a DSL modem supplied by your ISP? Is it also a router??? The method to connect depends on hardware, and your ISP.

or are you trying to dial through voice network?

Did you install the RELEASED version of RHEL6, or are you still using the beta version? If you're using the beta version, everything you've done is pointless, since you're on an unstable system. And again, if you are not paying for RedHat Enterprise, then you should not be using it. But you've not answered any of those questions.

You can use software from Roaring Penguin, (http://www.roaringpenguin.com/products/pppoe), or any of the other PPPoE software you can find. Google can lead you to the guides. You say you've created the DSL account, but you're not able to dial out. How about actually telling us what error(s) you're seeing, and where? We can't guess. And again, if you're not paying for RHEL, you might not be able to install newer versions of software/packages, especially since you're using a beta version. And plugging your computer directly into your DSL connection is VERY dangerous, no matter what OS you're using. Best (and simplest) advice would be to spend $49 on a basic home router, and use IT to make your DSL connection (that's what they're designed to do), and plug your computer into it. It has basic firewalling capabilities.

Its actually a Internet Cable connection .LAN cable directly connects to my ethernet.i am also using same internet connection on windows and i have created a dial up PPOE connection.

so i have also created same connection in linux through network manager under dsl tab.i have also given service name and username password.

so i want to know how to dial that connection or do i have to create some different connection for PPOE connection

Again, you need to use PPPoE for DSL. Read the link provided, or contact RedHat for support. They can tell you how to configure the software
