Do you mean Ubuntu 7.10 ? It stands for Oct 2007, by the way. Frostwire isn't loading most likely because you don't have java installed or configured correctly. Google earth I'm not sure about, might be the same reason. Can I make a suggestion ? Try Linuxmint. It's based on Ubuntu 7.10, and it has all the multimedia codecs, proprietary drivers and pesky little config details like java already solved and ready to go. I just installed the fluxbox version of Linuxmint in a VM ten minutes ago, used the built in installer to install frostwire, and now it's running. Java was ready to go, no funky commands. I use Kubuntu as my main box by the way, but Linuxmint solves so many headaches for newer users that I always recommend it. Here is a download link, if you are interested. Don't use the "light" version.

Good luck with that...

Or he could just download and install Automatrix2 and have it install jave codec and such. That way he can keep the OS he already installed.

Automatrix2

I may be spoiling all the fun but I hope that you see the implications of using Automatix. It is totally unsupported by the Ubuntu team (not to say frowned upon) because it does some quirky things that a proper application should not do. Remember the name in case certain applications start breaking for no apparent reason. It would have been a lot better if googleearth had been installed from the medibuntu repository instead (which you'll may want anyway since it's got some other interesting applications).
