Good distro for a newbie
 

i jsut got redhat but i cant get how to internet on it. and other things too, So my question is whats the best,easiest,user friendly,internet access easy:) to get on with a linksys speedboost router, witha wireless pci card. im new to all of this im still reading up stuff but i want the most easyest linux distro to use and that i can get on the internet really easy and do other things.

For a newbie I would check out mandrake.. And then work your way to a better distro like slackware or gentoo... Go to google.com and do a search on mandrake you will find their site.

IMO, you can start with any of the following. Fedora, Suse, Mandrake (Mandriva), and Ubuntu.

I would agree with you that Mandrake is a good starter Distro, however, I think that saying that moving to Slackware is moving up in the world is a pretty general biased comment... I have both and "they both" have there good and bad points... saying one is more advanced then the other is really rediculous...

Also I would say if you have RH installed try to figure out the problem your having with the Internet rather then just installing another Distro because the Internet does not work... It will work, you'll just have to read a little and figure it out... That is really how your going to learn it anyway.

What? I don''t get your comment. Yes, I agree that people tend to protect their distro, however, I have used many and tend to think it's only a matter of preference and what name people like to associate themselves with... I tend to go by what works and not what is trendy or cool...

Ok just go with mandrake because it is the easiest to learn and most of everything is configured for you.. If you have time to read and really want to understand how linux works I would suggest gentoo or slackware... IMO i think gentoo or slackware are the best distros out there and I wouldnt use anything else...and yes that is an opinion but alot of people I think would agree with me..

ok so mandrake would be a easy one to use. And it will find and set-up everything it self. so when i do this i can connect to the internet when it boots i dont have to do nothing to it. And also i have windows and RH so can i add this to my 6GB hdd or should i just take out RH so i can just have mandrake on there. SO its very easy to use well ill get it then but can you answer my questionin this statement.
