Godaddy has real computers at their location. To be exact they have virtual OS's running on real computers. To make it more complex they have many domains on one virtual OS. They can either be windows or linux. It is independent of your OS.

It does make some choices later only on how you wish to use and access it.

They both have some features that may suite even the largest companies.

I suspect that either would be OK for you. The most basic advantage might be to limit access to files by .htaccess so only people who you let have access to some files would be allowed in the linux version. There are some features such as webdav and some other features that one might choose windows.

What would you like to do with your web page and hosting might be the best question.
