gnuplot: xgfe

Hi all. I am having some problems compiling xgfe... the frontend for gnuplot which uses qt. I modified "Makefile.common" as so:

# modify starting here

INSTALL_BIN = /opt/gnuplot/bin
INSTALL_DOC = /usr/doc/xgfe-$(VERSION)
STATIC_TARGET = xgfe-static

# end modifications

and I did not rename any of the other makefiles b/c they said that the current one was for linux. When i run "make" I get this (actually more errors, but this is all that showed):

gnuInterface.h:2116: parse error before `&' token
barOp.cpp: In member function `void barOp::setGnuInterface(gnuInterface*)':
barOp.cpp:50: `class barOp' has no member named `string'
barOp.cpp:50: parse error before `=' token
barOp.cpp:52: invalid use of member (did you forget the `&' ?)
barOp.cpp:56: invalid use of member (did you forget the `&' ?)
barOp.cpp:56: invalid use of member (did you forget the `&' ?)
barOp.cpp:57: request for member `c_str' in `this->QWidget::size() const',
which is of non-aggregate type `<unknown type>'
barOp.cpp: In member function `virtual void barOp::setBarOption()':
barOp.cpp:62: `string' undeclared (first use this function)
barOp.cpp:62: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once for each
function it appears in.)
barOp.cpp:62: parse error before `=' token
barOp.cpp:64: `barSize' undeclared (first use this function)
make: *** [barOp.o] Error 1

Does anybody know where I am going wrong, or how to fix the prob?

OR.. does anybody know a good clone of Maple, or Mathematicas?... (or where i can find a maple 7 keygen?)
