gnu parted sites not working

Back sooner than I thought! I was advised by two patient members to use gnu parted software to partition my hard drive. But the main website for this seems to have dysfunctional download links! There seem to be no good mirrors either!

Wow, this partitioning is going to be a very tough nut to crack! I wonder how many weeks it will take me!

If anyboby knows a GOOD download site for GNU Parted 1.6.6, please let me know!

Thanks,

Look at the mirror site list: http://www.gnu.org/prep/ftp.html. Just tried a few. Some didn't work, but one did work for 1.6.5 (the Massachusetts one). Get a bootdisk image and a rootdisk image, and copy them to floppy using the rawrite tool: ftp://ftp.cerias.purdue.edu/pub/os/s.../rawritexp.exe . Before you close your net connection, run it. It will download a certain file that it needs to run with Win9x/ME.

If you are unsuccessfull in downloading parted many distros like Mandrake include parted and another FAT32 resizing tool called fips.

aaa, thank you for your reply regarding fips, I'll get right on it!

Hi again, aaa,
I went to that site you suggested, and clicked on the Massachessets link, ftp://aeneas.mit.edu/pub/gnu/ I was then presented with a scroll screen with hundreds of yellow file folder icons. Didn't/wouldn't have a clue which one to click on or download. How did you pick one? Did you pick more than one?

As always, all help appreciated.

aaa, ok, correction, I guess you picked the one that said 'parted"

okay, I scrolled through all those yellow folders and picked the one that said parted, and it turned out to be parted 1.6.6. But what do I do then? Left clicking or right clicking didn't seem to do anything. Also I tried the other link you gave, this time I got a nasty non connect message, so I went to the home site, and there were six mysterious folders! aaa, I guess you're just much much more experienced than me! What was easy for you was IMPOSSIBLE for me.

Thanks anyway, for trying.

Try this link ftp://aeneas.mit.edu/pub/gnu/parted/parted-1.6.5.tar.gz

If you're in Windows, right-click and choose "save link as..." or "save target as..." (sorry don't use Win that often anymore). Winzip will open the file. Look for a readme.
