gnome won't load after compiling new kernel
 
Hello all. I am running Debian Sarge. I had Gnome 2.4 installed on it and running great. My kernel was 2.4.18bf2. I needed to run a newer kernel to get a new wireless card to work, so I compiled 2.4.26. One problem I ran into, though, was that Gnome no longer loads. It shows the splash screen and then freezes. I tried a dpkg-reconfigure, to no avail. Why would Gnome stop working, and what do I need to do to get it working again? Thanks.

Hmm.. it depends on your hardware. For instance, if you have an nVidia card and you are using the nVidia driver you will need to reinstall it after a kernel upgrade. Also, if you have some onboard graphics but forgot to compile in support it may also cause X to stop behaving. Why don't you post your hardware config so we can take a look?

Well, I reinstalled the nvidia driver, and it appears to work, but gnome still does not. I have notices that if I do an xinit, and then try to start a gnome-session, that it gives me the following: "SESSION_MANAGER=local/xp2200:/tmp/.ICE-unix/15219". I'm not sure what all you mean by hardware config, but here is my XF86Config-4 and XFree86.0.log file:
