GNOME to KDE
Is there a way i can change my DE from GNOME to KDE and KDE to GNOME in FC5?

Assuming you have KDE installed, there should be a button on the login screen that says "Select session" or something similar (I can't remember the exact wording for GDM) and you can click it and choose your default window manager/desktop environment.

I'm using GNOME right now. I've done that but there is no KDE session. Do i have to install the KDE ?

Yes, I would think it suggests that you need to install KDE.

I've just updated my kernel to 2.6.16-1.2122_FC5.
I've tried to install KDE but there's a problem. It stated: Code:
[root@localhost /]# yum install kde |
If you have the install CD, then you can install from there most likely.
KDE comes in an expansive set of packages, which have to be installed appropriately so the OS's configuration knows that KDE has been installed. Then you can try logging out and selecting an environment. |
installing KDE in FC5
If you don't have a cd, you can use "yum groupinstall". Try "yum grouplist" to see available groups.

Open up the graphical package manager (i think its called Pirut, but it is listed in the menu as Add/Remove Software). Select "Desktops" and select KDE for installation.
You can then select between Gnome and KDE on login, just click the "Session" button on the login screen. It will prompt you if you want to change the default or not. Alternatively, use YUM (or Pirut) to install "switchdesk". Then you can change you default desktop using "switchdesk kde" or "switchdesk gnome". You can still choose one or the other on login though. I hope this helps --Ian |
