Gnome screensaver hangs...

I'm using Gnome 2.24 and Mandriva pwrpack 2009.0.

Sometimes, I'm unable to predict when, attempting to clear the screensaver with my password results in the screensaver just spinning.

When it does occur, I <ctrl> <alt> F1, login as root and kill the screensaver process. I really prefer to have the screensaver lock, but this is a pain.

Thoughts? Alternate approaches?

Thanks,

Not much help - but gnome uses a lot of ram: On my desktop i only have 256MB and dont have any trouble. But on my laptop with only 128MB - everything is slower. New screensavers tend to require a lot of system memory...so i would suggest you try using a very basic one insted of a OpenGL screensaver and see what happens..
