Gnome Menu Flashes

I have installed Simply Mepis 3.4-3 on my desktop. Since I didnt like the look of the KDE Desktop I decided to install Gnome. After having installed gnome I restarted the machine into Gnome and everything was working fine. I then did a software upgrade on mepis and after it the gnome menu isnt working correctly. The 2 menus next to the application menu work fine but the application menu keeps repeatly flashing which means I am unable to select any programs from the list.

How could I fix this problem?

Mike
