GNOME in Gentoo help
Hi
I just did a fresh Stage 1 Gentoo install (after many hours..wait it's been days). I'm more used to a mandrake/suse type install where everything is done, but i'm learning ;) I've emerged Gnome, it's working, however it doesn't look like any other gnome desktop i've ever seen. I can't seem to find the "gnome control center" or whatever it's called. Currently, it looks like this: Top panel (moves independantly), bottom panel (same as top panel) each with a green 'title bar'. When i open a window, i must first "position" it, (the outline of the window is attached to my mouse pointer, a click places the window). There are a few other weird things, ie the desktop is a window, not a typical locked background desktop. Anyway, I can't figure out where to configure it. I have a few config menus, but most don't seem to do much. "theme" changed half of the look, but the teal/green scheme is still there. How do i make it look pretty, like how everyone else's is?? thanks alex |
umm, i use gentoo, and i haven't seen any of these problems ... also i use "gnome-lite" and have learned to hate gnome ... especially gnome-vfs ... etrrrrrrrrrr
:) anyways, the problem might stem from how you start gnome, do you use the standard (for gnome .... i don't think it will work with out) gdm and have it set for a "standard" gnome session ? and if you cant get to the control center, use the command line .. the program is called gnome-control-center or something like that |
