gnome error

When i installed suse 9.0 profesional i didnt install gnome with it and i went into the software add thing and put a check in the gnome box and installed that but now when i logout and try to login to gnome it gives me the following error :

Could not look up internet address for x-6-00-05-5d-32-95-a2
this will prevent Gnome from operating correctly. It may be possible to correct the problem by adding x16-00-05-5d-32-95-a2 to the file/etc/hosts

I have no idea how to do that though :(

Don't you have the kde option ?

I also have 9pro but I can have kde or gnome and some other desktops startup from the loging.

If you can get in either GNOME or KDE as root and start up the KONSOLE

From what I see, the program is asking you to edit the file /etc/hosts

So you must get in the console and then
you can use #kedit /etc/hosts or #gedit /etc/hosts
and edit the file.

Thanks for the reply, Not sure what to put in the file and where to put it though ive never done anything like that in linux :( maybe there is a tutorial somewhere?

It is in your story. If you compare it says that you should replace the first - with a 1. You can always give it a try.

With Kedit or Gedit it is a piece of cake. It is just like correcting a word with a wordprocessor.

Perhaps there is some information at www.suse.com or take a chance at Google.

On the other hand you can also use your cd, it has an an emergency start.
Perhaps it is possible to correct the error in that way.
