GNOME Email Handler

I am running Mandrake 9.1, I prefer KDE but use GNOME applications.

When using Galeon, when I click a mailto link on a page I get an error saying "Galeon cannot handle this protocol, and no GNOME default handler is set"

When I search for how to set a GNOME default handler for email, the documentation I'm finding on the web seems outdated as the steps provided do not match what I am seeing.

I've searched through as much as I know but can't seem to find where I can set the GNOME email handler to be Evolution (my preferred app).

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Wink

I'm using Gnome 2.4, so it might be different if you're using a different version. But you might have some luck if you can run the program gnome-file-types-properties.

After you open the program there's a long list of categories. If you look under "Internet Services" (right down the bottom) you can edit the configuration for the mailto service (again, right down the bottom, and then click Edit).

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the reply. When I expand the Internet Services there is no setting for mailto to edit.

What output do you get when you type this into a console?

gnome-file-types-properties --version

I get Gnome gnome-file-types-properties 2.4.0.

When I run that from the console, with any argument, the properties window opens. I do have the option to add a setting, is your mailto in the root of the internet services or a subcatagory?

In the root of Internet Services.

The description is "Electronic mail transmission", the protocol is "mailto" and for me, the Program to Run is "mozilla -mail %s" (all of these are entered without the quotes btw).
