GLXGears :: 128 FPS?!?!

When installing Mandrake 10 OE, I chose XFREE 4.3.0 with 3D HARDWARE ACCELERATION and set it to boot up when I reboot.

My system is as follows:

Abit IC7 Max 3
P4 3.0C
OCZ 1024MB PC4200 EL Series
2x WD Raptors
Asus ATI 9600XT 128MB
Audigy 2 ZS

I ran up 'glxgears' and it hit a maximum of only 128 fps. I also knew something was wrong when I put on an OpenGL screen saver and it was going very choppy.

What's wrong? How can I fix it?

eh ?

install the ati graphics drivers.
generic drivers are usually a bit crap.

what does glxinfo say about your openGL installation ?

here is your problem.

unless you are using a nvidia based graphics card, you NEED DRI (direct rendering interface)

and here is your problem...
you are using MesaGL. which is nowhere near as fast as OpenGL

OpenGL version string: 1.3 Mesa 4.0.4
the solution is to install the ATI drivers.
