giFT wont start!

I installed giFT a couple of days ago. It didnt work. Through searching I found out that I had installed an old version. No problem, I find and install the newest version of giFT from sourceforge. I cant connect when I start up giFTcurs. I get no errors. It just doesnt connect. In the statistics window at the top of the screen everythin is zero. Does anyone else have this same problem?

help?

heema 09-03-2004 08:18 PM

you could try to type : giftd -v

so that it could tell if there are any errors

caid 09-03-2004 09:07 PM

this might be a stupid question, but have you installed any protocol plugins e.g. OpenFT, FastTrack, Gnutella..?

student04 09-04-2004 06:38 PM

Code:

giftd & giFTcurs
try that.. and DID you install any of those plugins that caid mentioned? You need those to connect at all...

hypz 05-23-2005 07:44 AM

Yea I have the protocols installed. Now what?

heema 05-23-2005 07:50 AM

if you typed : giftd -v
it will tell you if there is any errors

you could also check in your home dir. for .gift and make sure that each protocol has its own directory

Code:

gift-setup

If you are using a router you need to open ports for the different protocols - gnutella, etc. What about firewall settings? Can gift access the internet?

I've tried giFt on several different operating systems and it is flawed. You may find amule and klmdonkey more reliable.

That command brings you into the configuration of giFT so that you can specify everything about your network and folders for your files.

What makes you think it's flawed? It's always worked fine for me on numerous different PC's. There's a difference between something not working and you not being able to get it working.

My bet is that the OP hasn't run gift-setup because the very first question needs a certain response to allow gift to work. It's done that way to ensure that the user reads at least SOME documentation. I think you need to specify either a 1 or a 0 (I forget which) to the first gift-setup question or it won't work.
