Ghostscript and Preview

So, I have finally convinced the machine to talk to the printer but could anyone help as follows:

When I try and print out, for example, a favourite crossword, it prints all the clues but not the grid, or it prints the outline grid without the black squares. Presumably I've got something configured wrong, but what????

Thinking that Preview might help, I checked the appropriate box, but got this message "Could not start Ghostscript. This is most likely caused by an incorrectly specified interpreter"

I think I've reloaded the right software and re-run the printer setup program, but the problem is still there.

The handbook is confusing me - can anyone spell out exactly what I'm doing wrong and how to sort out the Ghostscript preview problem, please?
