Is this firefox addon safe to use?

yes but LEARN how to configure it

and have a look at
"No-Script"
and
"Add block plus "

just installing is not going to do you much good
you have to LEARN TO USE IT

Yes.

And as John VV already said, you should use NoScript and AdBlockPlus too. I have been using the combo of these three for a long time myself.

I wouldn't run Firefox (iceweasel actually, but they're the same thing, just different branding) without ghostery. The only problems I've seen are the occasional website that won't load without whitelisting some of the crap, but other than that I know of no safety issues. The other extensions mentioned are useful, but I would put ghostery above them, and if I had to run only one, it would definitely be ghostery.
