Assuming you are trying to use a wireless network adapter.... Is it possible you can go wired for a short time?

At a command prompt, type
Code:
lspci
Cut and paste the output from that command here. If you can't go wired, try to use the text editor in your distribution to cut and paste to a USB flash drive or something.

Once we can see what hardware you have with the lspci command, we can suggest other firmware packages that may be needed.

After you can establish the hardware is operational, it's a matter of getting the hardware to work with you're network's wireless security.

See here if the problems persist...

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/262543

It names a package you may need. It's possible by connecting your wired connection, Ubuntu was smart enough to realize it needed this package. I didn't think there was a feature that did that, but perhaps there is.
