Getting started how to get linux (download in the usb)

After I read from "Getting Started" how to get linux, I am trying to download the Linux distributions (I select redhat using CentOS) on my USB, using utility UNetbootin, and my question is do I need to download the Linux distribution, the instruction says is not mandatory, but will help save time?
Could you explain and give the recomendation please!
Thank you!

A few of the many programs written to allow users to install a "distro" on a usb have an option to either use a pre-downloaded image (iso) or they can download it when you run program. No time difference. Same amount of bits.

See pendrivelinux.com for many how-to's and other articles that may help.

It will save time if you choose to download the ISO yourself from a mirror that you have a good connection with. For example, a College/University nearby. Otherwise, UNetbootin will just download from the main server which may be slower.
